Liberty Global - Corporate responsibility management

Managing CR at Liberty Global

Liberty Global’s Corporate Responsibility Committee (CRC) is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the CR strategy across the Company, and approving and monitoring performance against our CR objectives. The CRC was established in 2008 and is chaired by Rick Westerman, Senior Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications, who reports to Mike Fries, President and CEO of Liberty Global. The CRC meets 8-10 times a year.

A number of senior executive officers from across our organization sit on the committee, representing different regions and areas of the business. The CRC members are:

  • Amy Blair, Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources, Liberty Global
  • Diederik Karsten, Executive Vice President, European Broadband Operations
  • Manuel Kohnstamm, Senior Vice President and Chief  Policy Officer
  • Balan Nair, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Liberty Global
  • Mauricio Ramos, President, Liberty Global Latin America Division
  • Rick Westerman, Senior Vice President, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications

The CRC appoints champions for all seven CR focus areas that we have identified. Champions steer the development and delivery of our CR strategy, report regularly to the CRC on the progress that is being made and speak both publicly and internally on the issues and developments in their respective impact area.

Day to day management of CR at Liberty Global resides with our dedicated corporate responsibility team, based at our corporate headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Denver, Colorado. In addition, most of our affiliates have dedicated CR personnel. For CR purposes we count 17 affiliates within the Liberty Global group, which includes our corporate entities and programming operations in addition to our 13 countries of operation.

CR across Liberty Global
Our CR strategy applies to our entire company. However, as a geographically diverse company, we encourage our affiliates to interpret and deliver this strategy in ways that reflect the local market conditions and prevailing stakeholder concerns in the countries where they operate. We emphasize and encourage the sharing of best practices across affiliates, and our CR management team provides advice and financial support to our affiliates to help them where necessary.

The execution of our CR strategy ultimately resides with all of our employees – individually and collectively.   Although we have robust management structures in place to oversee the delivery of our CR strategy, we also believe that it is important to help all our employees act in a responsible way. We inform and engage our employees through our quarterly magazine, People@LibertyGlobal, our regular online CR Update, our intranets, and through various CR programs such as Climate Challenge, In Heroes and In Givers, as well as additional communications programs and activities.
