Our statement
“We want our customers to feel assured that their personal details are protected when they use our services. This is why we are focused on safeguarding the security of our customers’ data and their privacy while they are online. We will not compromise on this kind of security.”
Manuel Kohnstamm, Managing Director of Public Policy and Corporate Communications, Liberty Global Europe - Champion for Privacy and Security
Why it matters
Our customers require clear insight into the relevant data collection and data processing activities relating to them, particularly as digital technologies increasingly become an integral part of our daily lives. We live in a digital world where a significant proportion of our communicating, sharing and accessing information is shifting online. This means consumers may face new and unexpected security and privacy risks when they enter the digital world. We want our customers to be able to make the most of the digital world, and to feel safe and confident when they do so. We therefore strive to protect our customer’s data when it is in our hands and to provide the education and tools that help our customers understand how they can protect their own data security when they are online.
If our customers feel they are protected we believe they will access the full range of services on offer and we will build long-standing relationships with them.
What we are doing
In 2008, Liberty Global published ‘Digital Confidence: Securing the Next Wave of Digital Growth’, a report which highlighted privacy & security as one of the major drivers of trust that directly impacts the uptake of online services, such as e-commerce or video on demand transactions and even broadband internet access or digital TV.
Therefore we encourage and support each affiliate to offer tools and advice for customers on how to protect themselves in the digital world, through products such as our anti-virus Smart Guard software package.
