UPC Czech Republic, Liberty Global’s local affiliate, is the largest broadband cable operator in the Czech Republic and its operations include the two largest cities in the country, Prague and Brno. |

UPC Czech Republic is the largest broadband cable operator in the Czech Republic. In December, 2006, UPC Czech Republic acquired Karneval, the second largest cable operator in the country with over 330,000 service subscribers. UPC Czech Republic operates in more than 94 cities and towns throughout the country including the capital city of Prague, Brno, Pilsen and Ostrava. Operating since 1993 in the Czech market, its products and services use state-of-the-art technologies and are held in high esteem in the Czech Republic. On average, every fourth household is a subscriber to at least one of the Company’s services with more than 50% subscribing to two or more services. The HFC network in place allows for the distribution of triple play services to Czech customers. The majority of its networks are upgraded to two-way capability, with 84% of its video cable subscribers served by a network with a bandwidth of at least 860 MHz.

UPC Czech Republic offers two tiers of analog cable programming services, with up to 44 channels, and two premium channels in the network operated by Karneval and four premium channels in the rest of the UPC Czech network. Karneval also offers its subscribers digital programming services, with 55 channels consisting of three core services and seven tiers, including four premium services. Of Karneval’s video cable subscribers, 38.8% subscribe to the lifeline analog service only and of the remaining UPC Czech video cable subscribers, 54.3% subscribe to the lifeline analog service only. The channel line-up consists of up to 41 TV channels, 27 of which are in the Czech language. The packages are divided into Lifeliine (ten TV channels), Basic (up to 40 TV channels), and Premium (HBO, HBO 2, Private Gold).
UPC’s digital satellite television services, known as UPC Direct, cover the largest proportion of subscribers and offers over 150 coded and free to air TV channels and approximately 50 radio stations in digital quality. Special features include program language selection, parent lock, as well as an Electronic TV Guide. There are two tiers available, Rodina and Plus. Digital subscribers also have access to premium channels such as HBO and Cinemax. |
