UPC Hungary is the
largest cable television operator in Hungary. UPC Hungary provides analog & digital video, broadband internet, and traditional circuit-switched & digital telephony services (VoIP) to 905,000 customers as of September 30, 2009. UPC Hungary is the largest of Liberty Global’s operations in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of revenue.
UPC Hungarys customers are located in 18 major Hungarian cities and towns and their surrounding areas, including the capital city of Budapest. Its network is 97% upgraded to two-way capability, with 65% of its cable homes served by a network with a bandwidth of at least 750 Mhz.
UPC Hungary also offers business customers located in its service areas a variety of internet and telephony packages, managed leased lines, and virtual private network services primarily to its small office at home (SOHO) customers and small to medium size business customers.
Video
UPC Hungary provides analog and digital video services. An analog cable subscriber receives up to 55 channels and one premium movie package, depending on location. In April 2008, UPC Hungary launched digital programming services and by year end 2008, digital programming services were available to 879,000 homes passed. UPC Hungary offers a digital package of up to 73 channels (including the channels in its analog service), plus premium packages and HD programming. Through its digital service, UPC Hungary also offers DVR and HD-DVR time-shifting capabilities.
UPC Hungary also offers UPC Direct, a digital satellite television service that provides over 150 coded and free to air TV channels and approximately 30 radio stations in digital quality.
Internet
UPC Hungary offers multiple tiers of broadband internet service with download speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 120 Mbps. On July 1, 2009, UPC Hungary announced the commercial launch of its next generation ultra fast internet over cable, UPC Fiber Power, with speeds up to 120 Mbps. Following a gradual deployment, over one million homes will be enabled to benefit from connections that are five times faster than ADSL’s maximum speed, by the end of this year. UPC Hungary provides broadband internet services to subscribers in 18 cities, including Budapest.
Voice
UPC Hungary offers fixed-line voice with traditional circuit-switched telephony, as well as feature-rich digital telephony via VoIP (Voice of Internet Protocol) over its two-way capable network throughout Hungary.
